Senior, Nursing
IWU Scholarship Recipient

“I chose to major in nursing because I wanted to join a field where I could give back to the community. Nurses are key advocates for patients, and I’m passionate about creating a healing environment. Coming from a family of driven women who always put others first, I’m inspired to do the same through my work in nursing. I chose Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) for its personalized, hands-on education that makes every student feel seen and supported. From my first campus visit, IWU felt like home, and that sense of belonging has only grown stronger.

Receiving this scholarship has been a turning point for me, allowing me to be more present and active on campus and to take part in enriching experiences like nursing clinicals and conferences that deepen my knowledge. This support has made my education more accessible and has motivated me to strive for excellence both in and out of the classroom. It also allowed me to focus on my studies without the financial stress that often comes with college, freeing me up to make the most of the academic resources IWU offers.

Since receiving the scholarship, I’ve set even higher goals for myself and gotten more involved in the nursing field. I’ve joined volunteer organizations, taken on a role as a pharmacy technician, and learned the importance of networking and community engagement. This experience has inspired me to pursue leadership roles, and I feel I now have a clearer vision of the impact I want to make in nursing. After nursing school, I’m keeping an open mind as I explore options in areas like OR, outpatient, and community health. The scholarship’s support means I can focus fully on my studies and clinicals, giving me time to discover where my passions truly lie. I’m excited to find my place in the field and make a difference.

To other students applying for scholarships, I would say: share your authentic story. Committees respond to honesty, and it can really set you apart. The process can be competitive and even discouraging but keep refining your applications and staying motivated. To the donors, thank you for believing in students like me! Your generosity allows me to pursue my studies and explore all the opportunities in my field. Knowing that you’re rooting for us inspires us to work even harder. I hope one day to pay your kindness forward by helping others, just as you’ve helped me. Thank you for making such a meaningful difference.”
