In this issue, we report that the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), with support from the UPS Foundation, awarded ACI a matching grant of $19,050 for a series of boot camps beginning in fall 2019 for students of member colleges and universities. The boot camps will offer ideas for resume development, interviewing/presentation skills, workplace technology skills, and financial literacy and career paths in financial services. Our feature member is Quincy University and its rise from difficult financial circumstances in 2016-2017. We feature ACI scholars Jacolby Maxwell of Monmouth College and Rachel Rowlett of Trinity Christian College. ACI will host three significant events this fall, including our annual professional development conference, Nov. 2, in Chicago, a Nov. 7 HR, Diversity and Inclusion breakfast and a Dec. 6 Wealth Advisors breakfast. We also feature corporate partner Michael Best and another partner, The Back Office Cooperative, which offers ACI members “financial sustainability through expense reduction.”

In this issue we report that two more colleges — Eureka College and North Central College — have joined the ACI Peer Mentoring Program for the 2018-2019 academic year, increasing the number of campuses in the program to 11. Our feature member is Lewis University, Romeoville, with a unique history in avaiation. Our news section includes information about three new presidents we welcomed this summer, a tribute to Dr. Jonathan Palmer, former president of Principia College, and scholarships provided by CIC/UPS. We report on our two newest trustees, Jason Palmer and Donald Campbell, Jr., honors for board member Vince Williams, and we feature “THINK BIG,” an initiative from our corporate partner, BLDD Architects. Two ACI scholars are featured, Vanessa Murillo of Trinity Christian College and Jordan Bruster of Rockford University. Finally, we list a busy fall schedule, including the next ACI Fall Conference for college and university staff, Nov. 2, in Chicago.

May – June 2018

In the May-June 2018 issue, we share the success of ACI’s 2018 Benefit Reception, which raised significant funds for our Peer Mentoring Program. Highlighting the evening were two outstanding student testimonies about how peer mentoring has benefited their college experiences. Two ACI scholars talk about their scholarships, telling their own stories in video form. We feature member Wheaton College, one of the country’s top academic institutions. We welcome St. Xavier University as ACI’s 25th member. We also welcome Dr. Jamel Wright as ACI president and new leaders who joined our board and executive committee. We highlight a CIC grant awarded to ACI, and feature important tips on cybersecurity from Sikich, an ACI corporate partner.


March – April 2018

In this issue we share exciting news from our first-ever ACI Career and Internship Fair, which matched potential employers with students and provided learning opportunities about improving job searches and becoming valued employees. We’re preparing for our Benefit Reception in April, and in May, well-known entrepreneur and author Michel Sonnenfeldt, founder and chairman of TIGER 21, will join us for a day of presentations and meetings in Chicago. ACI is sponsoring professional development opportunities this summer at Augustana College and Illinois College. Finally, we feature Judson University in this issue, our corporate partner, PNC, and welcome two new corporate board members: Mark T. Neil and Watchen Nyanue.


January – February 2018

This issue features ACI member McKendree University, the state’s oldest college, and its president, James M. Dennis, who has served at McKendree since 1994. We also report on exciting upcoming events: Presidents of Knox College and Millikin University will address the City Club of Chicago about preparing students for the Illinois workforce; ACI’s first-ever Career and Internship Fair at North Central College matches employers with students seeking jobs and internships; and ACI’s 2018 Benefit Reception in April raises funds for peer mentoring and scholarships. Plus, we include student features, details of a new ACI jobs and internships webpage, tax-law information from Baker Tilly, ACI professional development conference dates, and we welcome Anthony Lobello, SmithGroupJJR, to the ACI Board of Trustees.
